Big Girl Jeans

Thanks for all your prayers. Sarah was doing really well this morning. She seemed pretty relaxed and at peace. The nurses in our area have loved working with / for her. She was getting well wishes / prayers from all of them as she won't be returning to the OB floor. She actually got a card from one of them that had a small pair of jeans glued to the front. Seeing the little girly jeans reminded Sarah of a talk her Aunt Carol gave at a MOPS meeting last fall. Sarah shared that she gets to choose her perspective and attitude towards what is going even when the surrounding circumstances might seem out of control. She decided to pull up her "big girl jeans" and zip them up rather than sit around waiting for circumstances to change. Surprisingly, there were very little tears this morning. Sarah has accepted the lot given her. She loves and trusts God. He is so good to us. It may seem strange but this experience has only shown us more how much he actually cares for us. Independently, Sarah and I were each singing in our heads a David Crowder song, "Open Skies." (lyrics) Once I started humming it, we both sang aloud. It was no mistake we were singing this song this today. He has certainly been there and is HERE with us today.

Praise Him under open skies
Everything breathing praising God
In the company of all who love the King

From wherever you are
Wherever you've been
He's been there
So let his people sing

And it's so wonderful to be here now
Wherever you are
Wherever you've been
He's been there

  3. I have been blessed by all your updates and beautiful pictures and thoughts - You are extremely generous and humble to share this experience with all of us. Sarah's strength comes through this blog and her ability to put on her big girl jeans through all of this is amazing. Bob, I pray for your strength, too through this as your family needs you the most! Take care and our prayers are with you all during the next step of surgery.

  9. Sarah and Bob,
I am amazed the stength that has come through these messages for the rest of us to grasp as we go on this journey with you. We lift our prayers for you and the same is being answered for us. I have typed the lyrics to a song we are practicing for an Easter musical "Bow the Knee", the word are so appropiate for us all but it just fits your situation and when we practice all I can think of is you. I tried to copy and paste but it didn't work so I hope to see you on Wednesday and bring it then.
    We love you!
We continue to lift you before the King!

  10. Well I laughed when I saw the big girl jeans comment. I remember the talk and it is so true of Sarah to put on her big girl jeans today and in this time. We continue to lift Sarah up in prayer and have to say how thankful we all are for Bob's updates. Thanks for the encouragement you two have given to all of us..

P.S., not to be a "nag" or anything, but I echo "Danny, Jen, Zack and Kayleigh's" comment about the name. Isn't there a law or something that if you don't name a baby within a certain number of days, his name automatically becomes Mark Edward??? I think that's how I got my name. I'll have to check with my Mom on that. ;)

  15. What a sweet picture. Now that is one for the scrapbook! As we continue to lift you guys up and prayer I am keenly aware of how your faith and obedience to God continues to challenge our own relationship with our Lord and Savior. Thank-you for bringing us along on this journey and for your willingness to be so open about what is going on. Even now God is using this time to reach out and touch the hearts of those around you.

  17. Bob and Sarah,
Oh, I am so thankful that you have overcome by God's grace two major hurdles...a healthy baby boy, and now the surgery. We will continue to pray that Lil' L will come through the remainder of the process of going home quickly and that you will heal quickly too. I am sure that you all are just longing to be a family under your own roof. I am so thankful for the peace that God is granting to you and all of us. We continue to pray for all of you and stand in awe at the sovereign hand of our God. Love you all,

  18. Bob and Sarah,

God is so good!! Your baby boy is perfect, and Anderson and Lyndsey look like they're doing well too despite everything that is going on.
One of the things I had been praying about in my own life was God to show me a married couple that I could look up to as a modal for my own marriage...I'm beginning to think that you guys are that couple!! Bob, your support of Sarah and your children during all of this is just amazing. And how you both haven't stopped praising God during all of this is so encouraging. I have to say I am completely in awe of this situation. God bless you guys!

  19. Sarah and Bob,
We just heard about you in our payer chain on Thursday. It seems everything has happened so fast! I am overwhelmed, but am so humbled that you are not. Your testimony and strength are wonderful for the rest of us. There are no words to express how much we think of you in our prayers. I know there's an indent where Jesus has been spending the hours beside you in bed. All our love and prayers! God bless you and the kids.

  23. I remember the "big girl jeans" talk too... Funny how God gives us little pearls along the way, that we may later draw from in our time of need. Sarah, you are truly one of those pearls in my life. I am in awe of you. Thank you for your unwavering faith! It has blessed me more than I could describe. We love you!!!

Great job Sarah. Keep your spirit high and you will make it because the Lord is carrying you. I was diagnosed with cancer in 1999 and given 6 months, I laid it at the foot of the cross and as you see I'm still here. I am terminal now and 6 months ago they said again 6 more months yet still here. Obviously the Lord has other plans. The one He has for you is a special one. Keep singing praises!!!

  32. Bob and Sarah,
Since last Thursday when Louise shared the news with me I have prayed for you and thought of you and your children everyday. All of your incredible faith and praises to God bring me to tears, you are both truly inspiring and completly glorifying to God. It is hard to put into words, but, your faith has brought me closer to God and reminded me in a very real way how amazing He is. Bob and Sarah, there are christians EVERYWHERE praying for you. As horrible as this is, it has been incredible to see God unite so many people in prayer, so many people turning their eyes to the Lord. Thank you for sharing your faith with us. We will continue to pray for you daily.~Sarah (Traynor) Barr

  33. Bob, first I want to congratulate you on the birth of your son! I heard about Sarah's situation through Angela (Donroe) Burnford. I'm sorry that this is the way we are reconnecting after all of these years, but I wanted to let you know that you are both in my prayers. I hope that Sarah's surgery went well and that the cancer has not spread. I look forward to reconnecting with you at a later date. Love, Laura (Hustead) Broughton (lbroughton13@yahoo.com)

  44. Sarah,
I was so saddened to hear that this was going on in your life. I wanted to tell you just how special of a person that I think you are.
When we were little and my family was gone all I had to do is walk to the woods to see you and I would not feel so lonley anymore. You were always there with a warm smile and could always think of something to do even teach me some piano.
I wanted you to know that through the years I think of you and smile you are the person with whom I do not have any baggage or anything to prove. I always wanted in a way to be so much like you. Your a bright light for those who lose their way.
    Thank You,
My love and prayers to you and your family.

HI sarah and Bob..I just had a chance to read your blog and was so happy that I had a chance to take care of little Ethan..I also thought it was ironic that I gave that card to sarah with the jeans and my name happens to be Jeannie"!!! I'm so glad we can share your story and know how you are doing...so many times when the babies go home we lose contact and dont hear about them again...so this is ideal that we can keep an eye on him and his wonderful parents..I am still saying prayers for all of you and will keep you all in my thoughts....give him a kiss from me...Love jeannie RN (MGH)
