An encouraging verse sent by a friend...Psalm 73:26 "My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever."

Step by Step

Sarah is making GREAT progress. She is such an over-achiever, but who didn't know that. She is pushing through the pain and making great strides. Yesterday, she could barely get around. The thought of getting out of bed onto the commode or a chair was just too painful. Our nurse, Sally, asked her this morning if she wanted to use the real potty. Sarah thought it was too far away, since she was moving to a chair on the far side of the room after. Long story short, she went to the bathroom then all the way to the chair walking by herself with the walker. Step by Step.
And if that was not enough, Sarah walked to the Solarium and all the way back. As you can see, there is victory and exhaustion in her eyes. This was the first time out of her room since we arrived at the hospital two weeks ago. She is determined to show everyone that she is not a wimp and that she wants to go home and not have to go to rehab.

However, since we have stairs in our house, a few days (perhaps a week) might be the best next step after the hospital. Please pray for Sarah and her recovery. She also needs to be getting more sleep than she is. Not only is she expressing milk every 3 hours throughout the day and night, she is also recovering from two major surgeries as well as rehabilitating (learning to walk again). All this makes for a weak body and emotional weariness, not to mention the joys of fluctuating hormones!

  3. Sarah- you look GREAT! Seriously! Who looks that good after EVERYTHING you have been through?
You are such an inspiration- given what you are going through to see you smile is so encouraging to me. God is working great things through you.
What a beautiful family you have- will keep praying for Ethan. If he has even a fraction of your will and determination (which I am sure he has), he will be just fine!

That room in the corner is worth the effort to get to - what a view and great sunshine. And it sounds like Ethan has turned the corner, just like Janet(?) said he would.

  10. Sarah and Bob,
It was great to spend time with you today, and be able to physically see how you are doing (and your both are doing wonderful). You both have showed great stength and we know where that comes from. Geat job Sarah, the more you move the easier it will become, at least from my experience and I know you have gone through much more than me. We continue to pray for more weight for Ethan and for Sarah's recovery. Also for rest for both of you as we know how important that is too. Keep Trusting!

  19. Sarah---What a great thing--to go into your website and see each day what is happening with you and Ethan! I don't have a computor at home but I'm at Lafe's bringing him back to health after his two operations in the last month. We went for his first walk today (about 2 miles I'd say). We go into your website each afternoon to check on you. You are a strong, brave girl and with your deep faith in God and prayers from all your relatives and friends you WILL get through this. We are ALL praying for you each day, and know that we love you!---AND you have a great partner, manager and coach. Praise the Lord for him!---Lafe says "Take time to laugh even tho it hurts", and he says he knows. Lots of love from Aunt Norma and Uncle Gordon too.

You are an awesome sight Sweet Sarah! I have been praying daily for you all. I am so happy to see you looking so strong and beautiful in the Lords hands.(And Ethan too) My Mom wanted me to pass on two of her favorite scriptures to you. "No weapons formed against me shall prosper". She has prayed this one for all our big and little hurtles and finds great comfort in it. And also "Great shall be the peace of my children" which she used to pray for my kiddos when I was sick. Before I spoke with her that was actually the prayer that kept coming to my mind. Having Mommy healthy brings great peace to Anderson, Lyndsey and Ethan (Yeah! what a great name by the way)so that is what I haved prayed for besides your requests. I am glad to know you aren't feeling embarrassed anymore, that DL request really touched me and I immediately prayed on that. You certainly don't need any extra stress. Wow I'm sorry to write so much, I guess I should have been posting as I checked. I think it was hard to know what to say, how to comfort you. I really miss you Sarah. And Bob you are wonderful and strong husband for Sarah. Your postings are beautiful. Sometimes I feel a little speechless.
Thank you for sharing your journey with us. We are honored to be a part of your prayer team.
God bless, Love Lorna, Paul, Jeremiah and Rosalind

  22. God has surely created you to be an amazing and strong woman! Sorry that we have not been down to visit. I am feeding Catherine every 1.5 hours and I thought it might be too much to bring her along. You are a busy bunch! It seems that the line is always busy:). I look forward to speaking with you and I will continue to try and get through on the phone. Thank you for being so transparent and for sharing your journey with us. Ethan is a beautiful and fitting name. We love you and can't wait to see you and serve you when you arrive home and during your recovery.
    Love,
    The Phelans

  23. Good Morning Sarah, Bob, and Ethan!

I woke up with this song just playing over and over in my head and I immediately felt like God said to share the lyrics with you, so...

It's time for healing time to move on
It's time to fix what's been broken too long
Time make right what has been wrong
It's time to find my way to where I belong
    There's a wave that's crashing over me
All I can do is surrender

Whatever you're doing inside of me
It feels like chaos somehow there's peace
It's hard to surrender to what I can't see
But I'm giving in to something heavenly

    Time for a milestone
    Time to begin again
    Revaluate who I really am
Am I doing everything to follow your will
Or just climbing aimlessly over these hills
So show me what it is you want from me
    I give everything I surrender...
    To...

Whatever you're doing inside of me
It feels like chaos but now I can see
    This something bigger than me
    Larger than life something heavenly
    Something heavenly

We love you all and have been amazed by this whole journey so far. We're still praying and thinking about you daily. Can't wait to have you all back in Milton again :)

    Love,
    Eric, Kate, and Jameson

  27. Sarah that is fantastic progress. Being an overachiever is really going to pay off in rehab.

I was talking with Norm and Keith tonight and we were all trying to envision your homecoming and perhaps what might need to be done at your home. If you can come up with some tasks for us we would love to help. Let me know
