Sarah's proximal femoral resection and reconstruction to remove a fibroblastic sarcoma tumor went well. Okay let's try that again. Sarah's hip surgery to remove the cancer went well. God knows the end results and we trust Him. The doctor feels he removed all the cancer from her femur and surrounding tissue. As you can see from the x-ray, the top third of the femur was removed and just about the rest was hollowed out to make way for a new stainless steel rod and ball. As you can imagine the incision is pretty long, about 20 inches, from the bum to about a third of the way down her left leg.
So I say we are half way there; Sarah has a long road of recovery ahead of her. She will have to go through rehab and retrain all the muscles that used to attach to the bone that are now attached to surrounding muscle. The range of motion will have to relearned. She will be doing all this retraining while pushing through the pain.
Sarah can use your prayer for good sleep, despite having to get up every three hours to express milk for the little one. We can also pray for understanding and patient nurses. Please pray for me as well. I am trying to help and Sarah wants me here because she trusts me, however, I am not trained and can sometime step on toes with my words and actions. Please pray that my heart and best intentions are recognized as such. Thank you.

Hey Guys!
ReplyDeleteHe is good! PT and the retraining is tough but He will supply strength and those who will continue to support you guys. We will continue to pray for you guys and for His new addition to the family for continued progress.
Although you don't have enemies trying to destroy you guys, I thought of you guys when I read the words of David in Psalm 5.11-12 when he sang;
"But let all who take refuge in you rejoice; let them sing joyful praises forever. Protect them, so all who love your name may be filled with joy.
For you bless the godly, O LORD, surrounding them with your shield of love."
May He continue to bless and shower you guys with His love and comfort!

It is so good to hear an update. I check your blog several times a day and am excited when I see an update, especially when the news is good. It will be good to have this blog that charts your journey through this whole process. Keeping you in prayer, Lori.
ReplyDeleteP.S. I hope to talk with you soon. Maybe I'll call later in the week.
I love your blog, I was working on the town election today and checked your blog several times during the day. I am sooooo glad that Sarah is doing so well. We love you guys so much and as for you Bob, try not to control every situation. You don't have control of this one, so step back and let everyone else do their thing, including Sarah. She knows what she can do and what she can't. Praying for all of you. Love, Aunt Dianna
ReplyDeleteBob and Sarah one more thing. One of my friends in Chester who was working with me today asked how you were doing. Much to my surprise she knew of your situation, even your name because her church, Calvary Christian in Chester is all praying for you. They told all about you on Sunday at their church service. I was shocked and she also knew that Bob was my nephew. What a small world we live in. Love you both.
ReplyDeleteyOU ARE ALL IN MY PRAYERS. gOD IS GREAT AND IS GOING TO DO GREAT THINGS FOR YOU AND SARAH IN HER RECOVERY. lOVE YOU
ReplyDeleteWe are glad to hear you are all doing well, well as well as can be expected. We will continue to pray for your family. Sarah may God carry you through this difficult time with as much ease and comfort as possible. Bob, great blog. You are doing an awesome job with it and I'm sure God will continue to give you all the strength you need and provide you with the right words to help continue to care for your wife and children. God bless! ~Karen & Mike Beauregard
ReplyDeleteI love your blog too! Sarah is in my prayers and thoughts. It will only get better now! Keep up the good work. - Betty Cunningham
ReplyDeleteThat is one good looking hip, Sarah! You are now, truly, the bionic woman! I will keep praying for your strength through PT as I know it will be grueling (Kelly used to hear the PTs called "Physical Terrorists" - with lots of love, of course) and for all to have patience and grace, and also a sign for a name for this sweet baby...
ReplyDeleteKeep it up!
Sarah-- You are so strong and I know that you will be able to make it though this tough time of PT and recovery. I have always admired and looked up to you even when we were in the 5th grade ;). God is so good that the doctors where able to get out all the cancer and cancerous tissue!!! Keep up the good work and take it one day at a time.
ReplyDeleteBob-I will be praying that God will provide you will the discernment of when to back away and allow the nurses and Drs to do their thing. You are an amazing husband and Father and I know this must be very hard on you as you watch Sarah go through all of this. Thank you for taking the time to keep the blog updated for all of us.
We are praying for you and your entire family including Baby Levasseur as you begin this recovery process..
Love, Mike and Laura Patton
Sarah, you are doing an amazing job! There is nothing you can't do! I join you in thanks to our Father for caring, protecting and guiding you through this. We'll keep praying. Miss you!~Louise
ReplyDeletewow that's pretty amazing. we are praying for you guys to have the strength both mentally and physically to get through this. max liked watching the video of his new cousin, he kept pressing play over and over again. sydney keeps checking the blog for updates, she is pretty concerned for her aunt. hopefully each day the PT will get a little easier. love to you both, sara
ReplyDeleteSarah and Bob,
ReplyDeleteA couple of weeks ago at Church we had prayer that God was going to use the internet for His purposes. Your blog (as well as Lori's) has certainly proved that He is working in this area. Tried to reach you Monday night, but obviously your room had changed. Love to hear from you. Mom
Hey Guys! Sarah- we are glad to hear that you made it through surgery OK and that you are spending some time with Baby L. That is great news. We will continue to pray for the pain meds and for the PT. I know that our loving Father cares for you and will lift you up. What a picture that you are living out, how we need others, how very much we need Him. I pray that His mercy will fall on you and that you will have peace.
ReplyDeleteBob- I have often thought of you and prayed for you. I remember when I was on bed rest for 14 wks all that Ryan had to do and all the scares along the way the decisions he had to make. I know that you are in a challenging spot...but REST...you are not in command! God is! In your own pain and emotion - Lean on others as Sarah is having to. I pray that today your hope will be renewed and that those who enter your room will see and experience a peace that transcends all understanding.
Keep "standing" and be "still".
Love-
Jeri Lynn
I am not sure if you are still checking e-mail or if you are just keeping up with the blog at this point. I sent you a link to a site where Sarah can listen to Revive Our Hearts on the computer (if you have speakers!) since she mentioned that she was hoping to do this the other day. She may already have the link but I sent it to her e-mail just in case!
ReplyDeleteif you need any nurses help when you get home call me cheryl hunter and yes this immediate need will be painful but once se goes she will feel so much better its always an issue after surgery
ReplyDeleteHappy and honored to be praying with you guys through this....God is so good! We love that as brothers and sisters that we can stand with you! Sending lots of love to you! Praying for all the surgery side effects and a speedy recovery!
ReplyDeleteMuch love,
Jenna and Ari
Continuing to pray that God brings Sarah quick recovery and healing, Bob some emotional peace of mind, both of you much needed sleep, and Baby L some chubby legs.
ReplyDeleteWe think of you constantly--you are never far from our hearts and our prayers.
-Karen (& Randy, Emily, and Luke)
Hi Guys! We are sending lots of love your way.
ReplyDeleteUncle Dave, Aunt Jill & Cousin Aidan.
I keep looking at the blog all day long. There are a lot of us who would like to call but I know that you need all the rest you can get at this point so you all can go home. I continue to pray all day long. God is certainly going to know who you are after this.
ReplyDeleteLove Pappa John
Hi Bob We are monitoring your blog daily for updates and continue to pray. II Chr. 20:22
ReplyDeleteLove Bob & Esther
Sarah and Bob,
ReplyDeleteMike and I are praying every day, and we love how the blog keeps us up to date. I have the PCA teachers praying for you in staff devotions -- we have one teacher who especially loves to pray for babies!
Love,
Bev Shevenell
Still praying and waiting expectantly to see God's answers! Thanks for keeping us constantly updated. It truly is a blessing and a way for all of us to pray specifically! Love you lots! "My grace is sufficient for you: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me." 2 Cor. 12:9
ReplyDeleteHello again! I've been checking the blog often and agree that it is a huge blessing to get updates and be able to pray specifically for all of you. Awesome job Bob!! Sarah~I had c-sections with both of my girls and during my quiet time today felt led to pray through all the specific details of that part of your recovery and all of the usual postpartum things that came to mind: healing of your tummy incision, losing pain and regaining strength in your tummy muscles, getting through the issues of constipation related to abdominal surgery, all the details surrounding nursing, hormones and emotions shifting after delivery, getting much needed rest/sleep... You have so much going on in your body right now. Please know that your healing is being prayed for overall, and very specifically! The Lord brought Romans 12:1 to my heart as I prayed.... Sarah you are offering your body as a living sacrifice every moment in that hospital! Each and every moment of your rehab and recovery journey is an ACT OF WORSHIP!! God loves you so much and is so glorified by the way you both honor Him!!
ReplyDelete:) Megan (old friend from UNH)
PS I'll be praying on the ounces and pounds on Baby L!!
You guys are in our thoughts and prayers. We praise our Sovereign LORD who is with you even now. Lord God, How much more special to you are Sarah and Bob and little baby than the splendor of the lillies of the field. They are created in your image. What an honor, Father. When we are weak you are strong Lord. Holy Spirit, our great comfort, we trust that you are truly actively and "with strenght" upholding the entire family. Lord God be magnified. Please Father use this chapter in Sarah's life to paint your Boundless Grace on her heart.
ReplyDelete"Let me learn by paradox
that the way down is the way up,
that to be low is to be high,
that the broken heart is the healed heart,
that the contrite spirit is the rejoicing spirit,
that the repenting soul is the victorious soul,
that to have nothing is to possess all,
that to bear the cross is to wear the crown,
that to give is to receive,
that the valley is the place of vision."
-Puritan Prayer

Just had to post the whole thing... jch
ReplyDelete"Lord, High and Holy, Meek and Lowly,
Thou has brought me to the valley of vision,
where I live in the depths but see thee in the heights;
hemmed in by mountains of sin I behold thy glory.
Let me learn by paradox
that the way down is the way up,
that to be low is to be high,
that the broken heart is the healed heart,
that the contrite spirit is the rejoicing spirit,
that the repenting soul is the victorious soul,
that to have nothing is to possess all,
that to bear the cross is to wear the crown,
that to give is to receive,
that the valley is the place of vision.
Lord, in the daytime stars can be seen from deepest wells,
and the deeper the wells the brighter thy stars shine;
Let me find thy light in my darkness,
thy life in my death,
thy joy in my sorrow,
thy grace in my sin,
thy riches in my poverty,
thy glory in my valley."

Great name you two!!! :) We are praying that little Ethan will put on weight soon! Keep trusting in HIM! :) Sleep peacefully tonight...will be praying that you both get rest!
ReplyDeleteA WONDERFUL name for a very special baby! We will certainly pray for a chubby little boy to come home soon! And we will continue to pray for God to take away Sarah's pain, keep her cancer free, and draw your family nearer to Him.
ReplyDeleteYour doing a great job Sarah, keep your eyes fixed on God, he will never let you down.
Bob, thank you for being the husband that God wants you to be.
You are both so encourageing. ~Thankyou! Sarah (Traynor) Barr

ReplyDeleteYay! A name!! :) And a very nice one. I'm praying, praying, praying, and have recruited many more! (It must be so encouraging to know that you have hundreds and hundreds - a thousand perhaps!?! - of people lifting you up to the Lord.) He is good and His mercies are new every morning.

I first want to say THANK U!!! This blog is a true blessing for others as well as a source for your (each of you)healing, both physically and emotionally. Going through something like this brings you closer, challenges you, as well as shows you what and who we are. You all are handling this with everything you have. Not going unnoticed. Your children are blessed to have this strength behind their family. All these moments teach all of us. Though we have not even met your children or spent time with you all in quite some time, family is family and it is the strength of that in which helps us keep going. God has truly blessed us with many families of strength. Our prayers are with you moment to moment on this journey. Sarah stay positive even when it may seem impossible and let this gift (Ethan) continue to bring joy to distract the pain you endure. May "love" give you the strength for healing moment to moment,& day to day!
ReplyDeleteOh, what a strong name for this precious boy!
P.S. Please continue your prayers for Lafe as he goes through his healing (physically and emotionally)now and for another surgery to follow in the coming months. Thank you!
Love & prayers to all,
Tom, Robin, Josh, Natalie, Lyndsey & Garrett
